Installation of a wave data buoy system in the sea area of the South Port of Patras, for the study of coastal erosion, within the framework of the European Project TRITON.

On October 16th 2019, the Region of Western Greece installed, within the framework of the European Project TRITON, a wave data buoy system in the sea area near the south port of Patras.

Earlier, within the framework of the same project, a weather station and a tide gauge were installed in the New Port of Patras and in the port of Killini. The goal of the installation is to facilitate the collection of useful data and the monitoring of coastal erosion in the Region and thus to aid the development and adoption of neccessary measures for addressing the phenomenon.

It is noted, that the Gulf of Patras, has been selected as a pilot area for the creation of the “Coastal Erosion Observatory”, in the Region of Western Greece, because of the touristic and residential development, as well as the biodiversity of its ecosystem.

An underwater video of the installation process can be found at the https://youtu.be/eHnBfbpicBc.
