The Messolonghi Municipality Coastal Zone at the heart of the Cross-Border Project TRITON
19 March 2019
On Tuesday, March 19th, the TRITON Open Workshop entitled “Good Environmental Engineering Practices for Mitigating the Effects of Coastal Corrosion in Greece and Italy” will be organised by the European Territorial Cooperation Group (EGTC) Efxini Poli , at the Vasso Katrakis Museum in Aetoliko. The purpose of the Workshop is to inform the Local and Regional Authority staff, public administration and the local community in general about the actions of the TRITON project in the area of the Mesolonghi Municipality and about concrete ways of exploiting the data that will be collected using the most modern technological tools (satellite images, mathematical models and international databases) for improving Coastal Zone Management .
Thanks to the actions of the TRITON project in the area of the Messolonghi Municipality, an innovative Coastal Zone Management will be improved, through concrete ways of exploiting the data that will be collected using the most modern technological tools (satellite images, mathematical models and international databases).
The inclusion of the coastal zone of the Municipality of Messolonghi in the main area of intervention of the project is due to the fact that it is the most important member of the EGTC Efxini Poli in the Region of Western Greece. Until the end of the implementation period (April 2020), the EGTC Efxini Poli Project Team will collect satellite data to examine in depth the changes in the coastline of the Municipality, identify coastal erosion hotspots and sites vulnerable to climate change, and propose solutions that take into account the geomorphological, hydrological, meteorological characteristics of the Messolongi coastal zone.
